Hot Trends in UX Design

The experience a user has while exploring a website or web application will inevitably impact the likelihood of future use or that a conversion will occur. A desire to maximize the user experience is a common interest amongst industry designers. Listed below are a few new techniques on the rise that can potentially increase usage and conversions. Check out these 4 hot trends in UX design.

Custom Bold Illustrations

Custom illustrations with a captivating design can help draw users in, contributing to a better user experience than generic images can offer. Bold colors can help to spice up an illustration, catching the attention of today’s preoccupied users. Although it’s debated whether bold illustrations distract users from a conversion, standout custom illustrations are sure to capture a users attention.

Movement from Mobile Apps to Web Apps

Perhaps the most significant recent change in user design experiences is the platform through which the user is accessing an appAlmost as if occurring overnight, everyone had a mobile app. From banking to grocery shopping to catching a ride, mobile apps were the goto platform for designers. However, when the limitations of mobile apps started to be more apparent, web apps became the next best thing. Unlike mobile apps, web apps can work on a variety of platforms. In addition, a web application can be maintained as a single unit, unlike having multiple native mobile apps and a website where each has to be updated independently. Their streamlined maintenance and instant usability have made web apps, one of the most used platforms for user experience.

Biometric Verification

For sites requiring a login, user accessibility is made available through the entering of a username and password. Unfortunately, users with a variety of logins risk not remembering their credentials, potentially hindering them from entering the site. With biometric verification, passwords are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Biometric verification is the process of identifying someone through a physical feature. In this case, most smartphones have a fingerprint scanner or facial recognition capability, which enables platform creators to allow users to log in without having to enter their credentials manually. A more streamlined method of allowing users entry is a great way to boost usage and conversions.

Strategic Use of Negative Space

The use of negative space as a design element has been key to usability much longer than the internet has been around. However, the concept itself has not changed. In the design world, negative space is an area of the canvas in which no design or text is present. Throughout many years of design, the extent of the use of negative space has been debated. In today’s world, users are in as big a hurry as ever, seldom reading a webpage in its entirety but rather skimming for what they might need. Negative white space is popular in today’s webpage designs because it allows for the directing of the reader, steering them towards the critical details. Negative space can be seen as the breathing room for all the other objects, designs, and colors present on the page.

Next Steps

Competition for the attention of users is an ever-growing complex competition. However, with proper techniques and dedication, generating usage and conversions will begin to improve.
